The Child Welfare minor introduces students to issues specific to children and families, from developmental, environmental, and social work perspectives. It is an appropriate minor for any student who will be working in roles that involve protecting vulnerable children.

Courses and Curriculum

Child Welfare Minor Requirements

  • 18 credits required for minor completion
  • Students should meet with their academic advisor each semester and use to monitor their individual progress toward completion of the minor.

Minor Requirements

Upon successful completion of this program, child welfare minors will be able to:

  1. Apply basic knowledge, skills, and abilities required to work with or recognize issues surrounding vulnerable children and families.
  2. Describe the process of assessment, intervention and evaluation of practice with vulnerable children and families.
  3. Explain how professional values and ethics influence the decision-making process in child welfare.
